Looking for Jewish inspiration? Here we are.

What Is Chai Hour All About?

Who's invited?

We welcome everybody who knows American Sign Language and is interested in learning more about what Judaism has to say on everything. Our attendees are deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing members of the Jewish community who use ASL. This event is not limited to Jewish participants, so if you are interested, please come!

What are we talking about?

The Chai Hour is a monthly event that brings dynamic presenters from all over to talk about a variety of Jewish topics in American Sign Language for the Jewish Deaf community. Each month's topic is different and runs the full spectrum of Jewish life, from history and Talmudic wisdom to Israel and kosher cooking. What's the purpose of Chai Hour?

For too long, Jewish Deaf people in the great city of New York have not had the opportunity to celebrate and explore our Jewish Deaf identity with like-minded people. We are scattered around the city, and Jewish Deaf events don't happen often enough to bring us together. That needs to change.

With Chai Hour, we now have an opportunity for a fun and passionate exploration of our heritage, every month. It is also fitting that in Hebrew, the word "Chai" means "living." Ours is a monthly event that brings Jewish wisdom to life through passionate discussion among different members of our community. For an hour, we will be living and experiencing our Judaism as never before. Therefore: Chai Hour.

When is it?

Chai Hour will take place on Sundays at 4 PM, or Thursdays at 7 PM. Each event lasts about two hours, including time for refreshments, socialization, and a Q & A session. The presentation itself lasts approximately 45 minutes to one hour.

How much is it gonna cost?

Admission to Chai Hour is $10 dollars, payable at the door. We take cash, check, and credit card. The best part: you'll be getting unlimited chai and delicious refreshments along with very enticing conversations about everything you've always wanted to ask!

Where will we be meeting?

Chai Hour takes place at the Chabad Heights Loft664 Sterling Place, Brooklyn, NY 11216 (between Bedford and Franklin Avenues).  Guests are invited to enjoy the fascinating presentation and delicious refreshments in a beautiful Brooklyn-style loft, just up a short flight of stairs to the second floor, that also serves as a synagogue geared to the trendy and up-and-coming Jewish community in Prospect Heights.

The 2/3/4/5 trains stop at Franklin Avenue, three short blocks from the event.
